Faith fell in love with dancing early in her teens. Often after her dance practices at church, she would go to help her mother with work. Faith’s mother ran a small hotel that would provide food service to the nearby shop owners, and Faith would do the deliveries.
Faith would often deliver tea and food to a well-known carpenter in the community. One evening when she was 15, the delivery took a turn into darkness. The carpenter asked her to go into a room to retrieve a teacup she had previously delivered. When she did, he assaulted her. Afterwards, she remembers, “I just left. I didn’t pick up the cup.”
Faith did not understand at the time what was happening to her, and was afraid to tell anyone. “I feel that I was sexually assaulted because I was underage, and I did not know what was happening to me.”
Faith’s mother eventually discovered that her daughter was pregnant. She sought help and was referred to International Justice Mission.

Eventually, the carpenter was arrested, and a long trial process began. During this time Faith went through our aftercare program, which included counseling and mentorship with an IJM social worker in Kenya, named Esther.
“I felt good when I was helped by Esther,” Faith said. “I felt like I also need to help other young girls going through what I was going through.”
“I am happy that IJM never gave up on me.”
