Hear from former interns and fellows

Prior to joining IJM, I spent three years serving with The Traveling Team, a missions mobilization organization focused on educating and equipping college students to find their role God’s global story. As the Field Operations Church Mobilization intern, I was so encouraged to witness how God is using the church mobilization teams to empower His church around the world to care for the poor and the oppressed in their own communities. At IJM, I greatly enjoyed working alongside such dedicated and passionate Christian professionals who inspire me to wholeheartedly seek God and His heart for justice!

Kristen Field Office Church Mobilization Intern, DC

Before coming to IJM, I volunteered as a campus chapter leader at my university and a state advocacy leader in Wyoming. As an intern, I loved getting the chance to encourage students around the country and the globe to use their interests and passions to seek justice for those oppressed by violence. The best part of working at IJM is the community of grace and authenticity that I have found in my relationships with fellow interns and staff

Daniel Student Mobilization Intern, DC

I graduated from Georgia Southern University with a degree in International Studies. During that time, my heart was burdened for human rights issues around the world, so after finding IJM could use my professional skills in the work of justice, I knew it was the place for me. I was given an administrator role, and though it was challenging, IJM invested in my professional development and taught me how to diligently serve others. The joy I found in living aboard didn’t come from traveling and seeing new places, but from serving with the hardest working and loving people I’ve ever known!

Emily Administrative Intern, Cambodia

I graduated with degrees in Sociology and History and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. I studied these things to gain a better understanding of how injustices persist throughout the world. I also worked on advocacy events with my university’s IJM campus chapter. I love IJM’s unique and holistic solution to address the problem of violence. I also enjoyed using my previous experience to bring people into IJM’s current efforts and campaigns.

Natalie Government Relations and Advocacy Intern, DC

Have questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some of the minimum requirements to be an intern?

DC-based internships and fellowships seek candidates with a minimum education level equivalent to two years of university. Field office-based internships and fellowships, seek candidates with a minimum education level of a bachelor’s degree, with competence and experience interacting cross-culturally. Candidates should be over 21 years of age. As a global organization, citizenship requirements vary according to local labor law and we invite and welcome applicants from any country.

Are IJM internships/fellowships paid?

In our critical efforts to rescue and protect people in poverty from violence, currently IJM does not provide a wage to Interns and Fellows. However, many IJM interns and fellows self-support or fundraise for their IJM internship and fellowship. We acknowledge that fundraising may seem intimidating, but we have experienced great encouragement and success through this process and IJM provides guidance and coaching for those who choose to fundraise.

Does IJM offer part-time internships/fellowships or other kinds of work arrangements?

Yes. Due to the pandemic, currently IJM is only offering virtual internships and fellowships and many of these positions have the option of being part-time or full-time. Academic requirements may possibly allow for modified working schedules.

What should I include in my Statement of Faith?

A statement of faith should describe your Christian faith and how it is relevant to your involvement with IJM. How has your faith inspired you to pursue this opportunity at IJM? What does your faith mean to you and what role does it play in your life? You might consider describing your spiritual disciplines (prayer, study, etc.), your current fellowship or place of worship, or a particularly relevant part of your testimony. This is generally no longer than one page single spaced.

I’m a former intern or fellow seeking employment references. Who should I contact?

Please send any employment verification requests to internships@ijm.org. Please note, there is a possibility IJM cannot verify employment for interns and fellows who served with IJM seven years prior to the current year.
