The Need
For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Sr. Lead, Grants and Business Development, Latin America to manage a portfolio of grants for all Latin America programs and will provide support to grant development and acquisition efforts in the region. This position will serve as IJM’s point of contact and liaison with grantors to ensure all Latin America programs meet their grant objectives and budget requirements and that all grants are effectively managed from start-up to closeout in accordance with requirements and IJM standards. This role will create or implement capacity building and innovative systems for building the Region’s efficiencies in grant acquisition, reporting and budget management, and represent the Region’s priorities to IJM Global. This role will also act as a technical expert on the Latin America programs, represent the Region’s priorities, and provide reports and thought leadership to both external grantors/donor partners and internal stakeholders.
This position is based in the Washington, DC area or any Latin America Regional Office and is available to be hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays). It reports to the Regional Director, Finance Planning, Analysis and Resourcing, Latin America. Successful candidates must have the right to work within the country in which they reside.
Responsibilities:
Networking & Business Development
Serve as the primary HQ-based representative of Latin America grant-funded programs and priorities to IJM Global matrix teams and external stakeholders.
Provide materials and information regarding Latin America regional performance on grant objectives and overall program strategy and priorities as requested to internal and external stakeholders.
Identify and move forward internal and external opportunities for grant and project support for the Latin America region.
Manage relationships with institutional grantors and grant implementing partners, in collaboration with other relationship owners from Global Programs and other Regional teams; serve as a liaison between them and the field team, guiding field teams to meet the requests of grantors in a timely manner.
May serve as organizational POC for subgrantees, which may include reviewing program reports, conducting monitoring visits, etc.
Training and Development
Liaise regularly with Grants Management team and ensure all grant staff are effectively trained on grant management.
Work with field programs teams to develop and maintain monthly detailed pipeline financial reports for grant portfolio.
Provide technical assistance and build the capacity of field office staff to manage and acquire grants.
Research, Program Management and M&E
Drive resources to IJM’s programs in Latin America through managing grant proposals in coordination with field programs teams and the Global Programs team, including development of compelling project narratives, logical frameworks, and grant budgets.
Manage new and existing grants through leading grant start-up and implementation planning, reporting, ongoing monitoring and evaluation, budget management, and sub-award management.
In collaboration with the field-based program leads, facilitate development of detailed implementation plans, monitoring frameworks, and tools and systems to ensure optimal data capture, analysis and reporting for grants.
Ensure that Latin America field programs, as well as Regional President, Latin America leadership team, and Global teams as relevant, have timely and accurate analysis of grant performance trends, grant impact or partner performance, and/or updates on communications with grantors.
Submit timely and accurate program reports for all assigned grants.
Develop annual grant budgets and quarterly forecasts for respective grants for Global Finance and Grants Management teams. Work with field programs grant staff to ensure burn rate targets are achieved and/or variances are understood and explained.
Work with field program teams to develop and maintain monthly detailed pipeline financial reports for grant portfolio.
Communication
Communicate lessons learned and success stories to IJM and external stakeholders.
Act as a subject matter expert on IJM’s Latin America programming to grantors, at key speaking events, and to IJM leadership.
General Accounting & Statutory Compliance
Ensure grants are managed in accordance with applicable rules and regulations and internal policy.
Review monthly pipeline reports and ensure field program teams use them for decision-making.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in international development, business administration, or related field.
At least 5 years of relevant professional work experience.
Demonstrated success in managing large, complex, international grant relationships, projects, and budgets.
Experience in grant management, including proposal writing, implementation, and reporting, as well as grantor trust building and relationship management.
Knowledge of standards relating to program design, monitoring, and evaluation.
Prior international experience preferred.
Knowledge of US and foreign government regulations and requirements strongly preferred.
Technical Competencies
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Salesforce CRM or similar data platforms.
Grants requirements and compliance.
Public speaking skills and experience.
Fluency in written and oral English and Spanish.
