The Need
For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50% and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Finance Specialist to record and report financial activities for our South Korea office, including grant-related budgeting and reporting.
This position is based in Seoul, South Korea and is only available for candidates with the right to work in South Korea.
Responsibilities:
Documentation, Reporting & Data Management
- Review staff reimbursements, and payment requests to ensure eligibility as IJM Korea’s expenses, including accuracy and completeness of supporting documents and process payments.
- Prepare journal entries for other financial transactions and record in the QuickBooks system following the IJM financial procedures.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations, quarterly Balance Sheet schedules and other financial reports for management and for Global Finance.
Grant Management
- Review sub-awardee acquittals/financial reports, ensuring that reported expenses are eligible for donor funding and according to the sub-grant agreement.
- Support the Department Head in preparing and submitting grant financial reports within the designated deadlines.
- Coordinate with the sub-awardee finance team in conducting review and verification of financial records related to the grant funding.
- Monitor grant-related budgeting versus actual expenditure.
Training and Development
- Conduct initial and refresher trainings on finance policies and procedures for staff, as needed.
- Promote good financial stewardship and cost-effectiveness among staff.
Policies and Procedures
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the office’s finance manual and other global policies.
- Contribute to updating office finance policies, procedures, and best practices (including internal controls) in alignment with IJM Global and local government standards.
- Collaborate with the Asia Pacific Regional Finance Planner & Analyst to produce monthly and quarterly forecasts and assessments of budget performance and with the Regional Finance Director on cash flow and finance operations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree required
- At least 3 years of progressive professional experience in finance, accounting, and bookkeeping.
- Experience in general accounting and bookkeeping, with a particular emphasis on grant accounting (KOICA preferred), expense management, and accounts payable ledger management.
- Knowledge of operating financial systems (Quickbooks) or other database functions.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills in both English and Korean.
- (For male applicants, military service completion or exemption is mandatory.)
