The IJM Australia Advancement Office was established in 2014 to fuel IJM’s global mission by mobilising Australians’ resources and influence to protect people living in poverty from violence.


The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50% and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Director, International Programs & Grants to lead, maintain and upgrade IJM Australia’s DFAT ANCP accreditation as well as grants acquisition, monitoring and reporting.

This position is based in Sydney, Australia and reports to the Chief Advocacy Officer, Australia. We are open to a 0.6 – 1.0 FTE work arrangement.


Responsibilities:

DFAT Accreditation and Compliance

  • Lead DFAT Accreditation project, including communicating with IJM internal stakeholders, to submit for Base and Full accreditation.
  • Successfully meet DFAT due diligence and compliance requirements for Base and Full accreditation.
  • Build capacity within local and partner teams to understand and implement grantor compliance requirements.

Programs and Grants

  • Oversee new and existing programs through all phases of the project management cycle, including appraisal, funding documentation, monitoring and evaluation, compliance with grantor/contractual requirements and organisational policies, and budget management.
  • Collate and verify program information to meet grantors’ reporting requirements, and write clear and professional grantor reports.
  • Maintain system for recording and tracking data and documentation across the grant/project management cycle.
  • Ensure IJM program offices have a clear understanding of their obligations and responsibilities under grant agreements, and build relationships of trust, transparency and accountability with program office staff.
  • Support program offices in project management from technical assistance, grant monitoring to capacity building support as required.
  • Contribute to the design and preparation of proposals or concept papers for new grant opportunities.

People/Project Management

  • Lead multi-functional team including being responsible and accountable for strategy, goals, budgeting, compliance and building effective and strategic solutions for the organisation to achieve strategic goals and continue to scale. Noting that the multi-functional team will not directly report to the incumbent in this position.


Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, ideally in International Development.
  • Experience working with, or managing, donor funded programs with remote / indirect delivery, including Australian Government or DFAT funded programs.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in applying, standards relating to program design, monitoring, and evaluation and compliance requirements for ACFID Code of Conduct, Australian Aid programs and other sectoral standards.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large, international, cross-location grant projects and budgets.
  • Experience in reviewing and proofreading documents and preparing technical documentation.
  • Experience in project management in cross-cultural contexts, particularly in Asia.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multidisciplinary project teams within a diverse, global organisation.
  • Strong understanding of grantor policies and requirements, especially DFAT and ANCP.
  • High degree of competence with Microsoft Office products (especially Word and Excel).
  • Grant and project management skills, such as implementation, and reporting.
  • Competent in reviewing contracts and partnership agreements.
  • Strong financial management skills and ability to work with program budgets and financial data.

  • Excellent coordination and organisational skills.
  • High standard of both spoken and written English.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, show initiative and work calmly under pressure.

  • Personal and professional integrity.
