You chose to bring Restoration.
Survivors lead the fight for justice
IJM exists to protect people in poverty from violence. And in a year like 2020, this was more desperately needed than ever.
The pandemic changed the world, throwing millions into poverty. And when the world goes dark, injustice thrives. But you chose to bring light.
And because of you, the work of justice flourished.
2020 reinforced for me a truth we have always known: We are in the right fight. Despite the unprecedented challenges and loss of this year, justice endured. You empowered us to transform lives, and you helped build the partnerships that allow this crucial work to multiply.
Our partnerships—both within the communities we serve and with you—allow us to scale rescue and protection, positioning us to pursue our most ambitious dream yet—to rescue millions and protect half a billion. Thank you for partnering with us to deliver the hope of protection and justice. We’re grateful to share with you the impact of your support.

As we scale the work of justice, we’ve been improving our insight into how governments and local partners are stepping in and leading the work of serving their people. In 2020, IJM, our partners and trained governments transformed lives.

Nearly 8,000 workers freed in India
When India went on lockdown, it could have been an opportunity for the government to neglect its people’s cries for justice. Instead, we saw India’s government take ownership of protecting its most vulnerable people.
Local authorities rescued 360 people from a brick kiln leading to a further mass exodus of nearly 7,000 workers from brick kilns in just 48 hours.
Sixty-four children among hundreds rescued at brick kiln during lockdown.
Media report leads to rescue of 150 from a Garment Factory.
Double operation frees 526 from two brick kilns.
IJM Ghana achieves landmark trafficking convictions
Two landmark trafficking convictions stand as key milestones as the wheels of justice turn. In 2018, the Ghana team worked with police to revise our strategy for rescue operations on Lake Volta. We adopted a new approach that helps us build stronger cases against traffickers, target traffickers higher up the chain, and rescue the children most vulnerable to abuse.
Before IJM began its work in Ghana, there had not been a trafficking conviction in the Volta region in 20 years. In July, we saw the strongest sentencing for an IJM Ghana case - proof that the new approach is working.

IJM Chiang Mai leaves lasting impact
When IJM projects reach the final stage of justice system transformation, the result is a beautiful picture of how governments, law enforcement and community organizations can work together to protect their citizens. It’s how societies were meant to operate.
That’s why this year we are concluding 20 years of work in Chiang Mai the city. The team has made a lasting impact by training its partners in the government and the community for two decades, fully equipping them to lead the effort.
As we look toward the future, we see the capacity to implement our programs at a scale that will reach millions. We are taking bigger steps than ever to end violence against people in poverty for good.
The impact you will make as you give your resources will be transformational, and it will be lasting. You will leave a legacy of justice that the world will never forget. Together, we will make justice for people in poverty unstoppable.
