MUMBAI, INDIA – Acting on evidence provided by IJM, police rescued young women trafficked to a brothel in Mumbai, from a large building notorious for violence. Over the past year, police have conducted three separate operations in this building to rescue trafficking victims trapped inside.

The survivors rescued earlier this month were brutalized in the brothel: they told police they had been sold for sex against their wills and physically beaten by hand or with brooms and sticks. They were constantly monitored, not even allowed to use the bathroom without supervision.

These meetings are crucial in sending a message to Members of Congress that fighting human trafficking is a priority for their constituents.

On September 6, Congress returns to Washington, and we want to make sure the message is still loud and clear: Americans care about ending modern-day slavery and want their elected leaders to care about it too.
