Legal Executive - Chennai, India
The Need
IJM is seeking a professional to assist in developing, coordinating and implementing IJM’s post release strategies. The successful candidate will assist in the litigation of criminal cases by maintaining relationships with labourers and providing administrative support to maintain the legal team’s casework files. This position is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and requires significant travel throughout South India. This position reports to the Director of Legal.
Responsibilities
- Maintain relationships with laborers;
- Draw maps of villages providing directions to where laborers live;
- Maintain contact information of laborers;
- Preparation of court petitions;
- Maintain case bundles and case files;
- Maintain and update government contacts;
- Review and maintain inventory for legal team;
- Coordinate logistics for the legal team;
- Travel, as needed, to fulfill the responsibilities of this position;
- Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information; and
- Carry out an additional portfolio of assignments given by the Director of Legal or the Director.
Skills and Experience
- Relevant work experience;
- Bachelor’s Degree or beyond;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite Software, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Tamil. Ability to speak and write Telugu preferred; and
- Organized, meticulous attention to detail.
