Donor Relations Program Manager (Prospect Research and Data Analytics)
The Need
IJM is seeking a strategic leader with research and analytical skills to leverage current and future fundraising opportunities in pursuit of IJM’s goal to raise $75 million by 2017. Through identifying, researching, and analyzing prospects consistent with the organization’s priorities and objectives, this individual will leverage potential partnership and strategic fundraising opportunities. Likewise, through coordinating the department’s efforts to improve data management processes, this individual will play a strategic role in streamlining reporting and analytics for the organization. This position affords the right candidate an opportunity to grow professionally as a strategic part of the Donor Relations team. This position is based at IJM headquarters in Washington, DC and reports to the Vice President of Advancement.
Responsibilities
Donor Prospecting
- Identify, research, and initially qualify prospects (individual and foundation) within and outside of the IJM database through the analysis and synthesis of complex information;
- Maintain a prospect portfolio and ensure appropriate and timely relationship management plans are established in conjunction with a regional team of Development Directors;
- Maintain current and develop new prospect streams that will enable the donor relations team to effectively target and engage with prospective supporters;
- Prepare confidential reports and other research projects on both a reactive and proactive basis for upcoming meetings and events for Executive Leadership, Development and Foundation Directors;
- Maintain an awareness of and coordinate prospecting efforts with events and other strategic initiatives that could net new leads; and
- Monitor, equip, evaluate and innovate prospect management strategies on an ongoing basis.
Database monitoring and evaluation
- Work with the constituent relations team and organization-wide to ensure that donor and prospective donor information is tracked in a confidential and streamlined fashion across the organization;
- Maintain current Raiser’s Edge reporting on donor trends and analysis;
- Work collaboratively to ensure that systems and processes are established in order for donor information to be appropriately tracked, monitored, and available for accurate ongoing analysis; and
- Develop new systems and processes in Raiser’s Edge, in coordination with Constituent Relations, to establish efficiency and data excellence for the Donor Relations team.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor degree and 3 years of experience in development research required, unless transferable skills are sufficiently strong to warrant special consideration;
- Proficiency in conducting donor research, with strength in assessing wealth and giving capacity;
- Ability to read, comprehend and summarize documents regarding wealth indicators (including SEC filings, property records, 990 forms and FEC filings); preferred experience of 1-2 years using tools such as WealthEngine, WealthPoint, and/or LexisNexis;
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, synthesize, and clearly report on a high volume of information in a reasonable timeframe;
- Proven ability to master understanding of a database, including development of reports and queries, 1-2 years of in-depth use of a constituent database required, Raiser’s Edge experience preferred;
- Understanding of the development field in general, and specifically major gifts cultivation, planned giving, foundation structures, stewardship and giving trends;
- Familiarity with prospect tracking objectives, including experience in trend analysis, training, and monitoring;
- Ability to balance the need for extreme detail and accuracy, with a need for timely and efficient reporting procedures; and
- Preference given to individuals with experience in, or demonstrated interest in data mining and statistical modeling.
