Community Mobilization Manager- Kolkata, India

The Need


IJM Kolkata is seeking a well-spoken and personable candidate to serve in as our Community Mobilization Manager.  In this position, you will initiate and develop relationships with church leaders in order to raise awareness among churches about the work of IJM, create partnerships between IJM and local churches, and mobilize church members and their communities to intervene on behalf of victims. This position is based in Kolkata, West Bengal, requires periodic travel throughout India and reports directly to the Field Office Director.

Responsibilities

  • Create and build relationships between IJM and church partners in Kolkata.
  • Meet with church leaders in order to raise awareness about Christians’ role in fighting injustice, specifically commercial sexual exploitation of minors.
  • Arrange and facilitate speaking engagements with churches, bible studies, youth groups, or other Christian gatherings in order to share about the work of IJM.
  • Adapt  existing IJM resources and curriculum for churches to be culturally specific to India, as well as creating new resources when necessary.
  • Create and implement strategies and volunteer opportunities in order to involve church and community members in IJM’s work.


Required Skills and Experience

  • 5-7 years experience in leadership in Christian networks, organizations or churches or as an educator preferred.
  • Two years direct management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in theology or related field.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.  Ability to speak and write Bengali  and Hindi desired.
  • Efficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Software and Windows XP.

  • Team player, able and willing to work in multi-cultural and diverse professional teams.
